Salome M.-S., intern from Germany:

Salome is a Bachelor graduate in Economics from Germany. She decided to work with ABC Worldwide in Cape Town as a recruiting intern, after getting a recommendation through a friend, who interned her before. During her fulltime internship from January to March 2020, each day looked a little bit different in terms of her tasks. She covered administration of HR processes, conducted telephonic as well as face-to-face interviews (especially with German speaking candidates), prepared job advertisements and German/English translations. Basically, she was in touch with the candidate from the initial contact till the final job offer. Working in Cape Town is a privilege to Salome. She found it as the most stunning city in regards to nature and landscape offering the mountains and the sea. It is also a city full of cultural diversity and really friendly people.

At the start of her internship Salome was challenged with the different accents as well as the new work processes. But throughout some time and the support of her colleagues she found her way around. She then also got used to walking up and down the very steep hill to her home 

This whole experience changed Salome definitely in a positive way. It was her first position in that kind of sector and she will keep in good memories. She recommends other future interns to not be afraid to talk to the colleagues as they are more than willing to give support. It is also important to view this unknown environment as an opportunity to grow. In the future Salome will deal with new situations more confident because she knows she will manage it.

Salome will not only miss her team, but also the sunsets from her favorite cliffs close to Clifton. There is no doubt that she will come back to Cape Town again as there are so much more to explore in Cape Town.

When Salome returns back to Germany, she will be busy visiting her family and with her moving to Berlin, where she will start with her new job and her Master studies.
